Our Programs
About the Bands at Hackettstown
The Hackettstown High School bands have a successfully storied history. The Tiger Marching Band is a 4-time medalist at USBands State Championships. We are also bronze (2022), silver (2023), and gold (2024) medal winners at USBands National Championships. The Wind Ensemble holds 3 gold ratings and multiple silver ratings in the NJSMA Region 1 Concert Band Festival. Our ensembles have worked with prominent musicians such as Dr. Jason Noble of Columbia University, Dr. Payton McDonald of WPU (NJ), Dr. Westgate of UMass, Dr. Tom McCauley of MSU (NJ), professional tubist Jarrod Briley, and composers Peter Sciaino and Chris Bernotas. The bands at Hackettstown have performed in Boston, Norfolk, Cleveland and Annapolis. In 2014, the Hackettstown Band was in the Super Bowl Halftime show featuring Bruno Mars. In 2024, the band commissioned a new work by composer Grace Baugher Dunlap titled Vicious Cycles which is available through Murphy Music Press.

Concert Band
Concert Band is a curricular ensemble. This ensemble is the entry level band at the high school. It is designed to continue the instrument education that students began in Middle School. In Concert Band, we will focus on music reading literacy, music theory, basic tone and sound production, music technology.
Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is a curricular ensemble. This course is designed to continue the instrument education that students began in Concert Band. In Wind Ensemble we will focus on increasing music reading literacy at an advanced/college level, advanced sight reading, advanced music theory, ensemble clarity, balance and intonation. Wind Ensemble is music performance at the highest levels. The wind ensemble consistently receives silver and gold ratings at the NJSMA region festival.
Marching Band
The Tiger Marching Band is the USBands group 2aa National Champions for 2024. The Tiger Marching Band is an extracurricular ensemble. In addition to our own competitive schedules, we serve as a pillar of support for school community by performing for all home football games and local community events.

Color Guard
Colorguard is an extension of the marching band and is the visual representation of the marching band program. Colorguard involves dancing, acting, and spinning of equipment such as flags, rifles, and sabres. Our guard is currently the USBands group 2aa National Championship Silver Medalists for two years in a row. Since it is an extracurricular activity, Colorguard is open to any person in the district regardless of experience.
